Hate group affiliate angry at Disney show for featuring same-sex family

Disney's 'Doc McStuffins' under fire for showing same-sex parents.

A ridiculously named affiliate of the anti-LGBTQ hate group American Family Association is furious at Disney for (shock and shudder) daring to acknowledge the existence of same-sex families.

From The Huffington Post:

In a post on its official website, One Million Moms officials blasted Disney for “pushing an agenda” by featuring the two-mom family on “Doc McStuffins,” which airs weekly on both The Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

“Controversial topics and lifestyle choices should be left up to the parents to discuss and Disney Junior should not introduce this to young children,” they wrote. “Just because an issue may be legal or because some are choosing a lifestyle doesn’t make it morally correct.”

Included in the post is an excerpt of a 2012 AfterEllen interview with “Doc McStuffins” creator and executive producer Chris Nee, who is a lesbian. Nee acknowledged she would “definitely” instill messages about acceptance in the show.

One Million Moms, which has faced a large degree of mockery for past protests, goes on to say:

Disney Channel has questionable content at times, especially when it portrays kids showing disrespect towards parents and adults. However, many still consider it a family-friendly channel since it is a network created for children, particularly the Disney Junior division, which is primarily for preschoolers.

But this is not a first for Disney Channel. During the finale of “Good Luck Charlie” in 2014, a family with two moms was showcased as the focal point of the episode.

This past spring on Disney XD, a “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” episode featured a scene at a boy band concert where several people, including same sex couples, kiss on cue with the music.

Don't let the desire to rightfully mock One Millions Moms divert you from the wounds the organization seeks to open and exploit in our community. It's message is a passive/aggressive way of saying things so many of us have heard so often:

I have no problem with gay people but why do they have to be so all in-your-face about it.

That's the notion which strips us of our humanity.  Apparently we're not supposed to participate in normal things which acknowledges our human existence. Queer folks aren't supposed to have steady relationships, families, or even normal lives. We're supposed to creep around like drooling ghouls in a graveyard in the dead of night, confining our existence to nocturnal bedroom habits of sex, sex, sex.

How dare we live our lives by our truths rather than the narrow-minded ignorance of the self-appointed arbiters of morality.

Even if that group were actually comprised of one million mothers, I would tell them exactly the same thing I'm telling them now.

Have a seat.

Acknowledging the existence of same-sex families is neither  controversial nor about a "lifestyle choice." It's about acknowledging reality and sending a message that same-sex families are neither vulgar, sinful, or a part of any "untested experiment."

And it sends the message to a child in a same-sex household that he/she should never be ashamed of their families.

One Million Moms's inability to understand this only demonstrates that it's self-proclaimed moral direction is just as faulty as its numerical claim.
